II. WISH FOR THE PRESENT (CÂU ƯỚC Ở HIỆN TẠI)
- Wish for the present hay còn gọi là Wish + Past simple (Câu ước ở hiện tại)
- Diễn đạt mong ước về một sự việc không có thật ở hiện tại (giả định điều ngược lại với thực tế) hoặc sự việc không thể thực hiện ở hiện tại.
- Dùng thì quá khứ đơn (past simple) để diễn đạt mong ước ở hiện tại.
Subject + wish (es) + subject + verb (past simple)
E.g My brother wishes he was/ were a billionaire.
I wish I had a car.
- Dùng thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past continuous) đế diễn tả mong muốn điều gì đó xảy ra ngay lúc nói.

Chú ý:
• Câu ước ở hiện tại dùng would để thể hiện sự phàn nàn hoặc bất bình trước một hành động đang diễn ra ở hiện tại.
E.g. I wish Samantha would stop talking now. I wish you wouldn’t stare at me!
• KHÔNG dùng would để diễn tả ước muốn ở hiện tại, nhưng có thế dùng could.
E.g Sarah wishes she could learn more about other countries traditions.
• Sau wish, ta có thể dùng was hoặc were với chủ ngữ I, he, she, it, hoặc với danh từ số ít.
