One sister is a potter and the other sister does the same job as their mother used to do - she works as a photographer. Stellas brother, James, is a musician. Stella first hit the newspaper headlines in 1995 when she graduated in fashion design from art college. At her final show, her clothes were modeled by her friends, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, both well-known models. Unsurprisingly, the student show became front-page news around the world. Stella hadnt been in the news before as a fashion designer but she had spent time working in the fashion world since she was fifteen. In March 1997, Stella went to work for the fashion house Chloe. People said the famous fashion house had given her the job because of her surname and her famous parents but Stella soon showed how good she was. She designs clothes which she would like to wear herself, although shes not a model, and many famous models and actors choose to wear them. In 2001 Stella started her own fashion house and has since opened stores around the world and won many prizes. A lifelong vegetarian, McCartney does not use any leather or fur in her design. If parents bring up a child with the aim of turning the child into a genius, they will cause great damage to him. According to several leading educational psychologists, this is one of the biggest mistakes which some parents make. Generally, the child will understand very well what the parents expect, and will fail. Unrealistic parental expectations can cause great damage to the children.
However, if parents are not unrealistic about what they expect their children to do, but are hopeful in a sensible way, the child may succeed in doing very well especially if the parents are very supportive of their children.
Michael Smiths is very lucky. He is very fond of music, and his parents help him a lot by taking him to concerts and arranging private piano and violin lessons. Although Michaels father plays the trumpet in a large orchestra, he never makes Michael enter music competitions if the is unwilling.
Michaels friend, Winston Maier, however, is not so lucky. As both his parents are successful musicians, they set too high a standard for Winston. They want their son to be as successful as they are, and so they enter him in every piano competition held. They are very unhappy when he does not win. When I was at your age, I used to win every competition I entered, Winstons father tells him. Winston is always afraid that he will disappoint his parents and now he always seems quiet and unhappy.

In your life, you have many relationships: with family members (such as your parents, siblings and children), friends, and maybe romantic partners. Relationships can be very good for our health. Safe and healthy relationships give people a sense of support, connection, trust and respect.
Even healthy relationships can be challenging and cause us stress sometimes. We won’t always agree with each other or see things the same way. But if we respect each other and work to have good communication, we can understand each other better and make our relationships even stronger.
In this lesson, we will talk about how to keep your relationships healthy, by communicating honestly and resolving conflict in respectful ways, for example.
Respect is the foundation of safe and healthy relationships: both partners must respect each other. Respect means believing that the other person deserves to be treated well, simply because they are a person. When you respect someone, you know they have the right to make decisions and live their own life. Mutual respect allows people to become true partners, listening to each other, appreciating each other’s strengths, and finding compromises that work for both people.
Communication is also essential to healthy relationships. You and your partner should be honest with each other and be able to speak freely and openly about your thoughts and feelings. It’s easier to communicate honestly when you feel secure and comfortable in a relationship—when you trust that your partner accepts you as you are and values your partnership. In a healthy relationship, your partner is interested in what you think and feel.

Best friendship evolves with time - we cannot go out and pick our best friend. We become friends with people who share common interests – at school or through hobbies, for example.
Best friends have usually known each other for years and stuck together through good and bad times. If you havent got one, perhaps you are being too distant from people, or focusing too much on your work.
